RAPID SLOW DESIGN

THIS PROJECT EXPLORES USER PARTICIPATION AS A WAY TO GENERATE THE VALUE AND PERSONAL FUNCTIONALITY OF A PRODUCT. THE PROJECT AIMED TO INVOLVE THE USER IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE PRODUCT THROUGH THE ACTION OF PUTTING IT ON. THROUGH THIS, THE PROCESS OF PUTTING ON THE GARMENT BECOMES A SITE FOR CREATION AND DESIGN IN ITS OWN RIGHT. THE GARMENTS ARE ONLY CONSTRUCTED WHILE WORN AND ARE OPEN TO INTERPRETATION AND MULTI-FUNCTIONAL.

THE PROJECT EXPLORES OPEN SOURCE DESIGN TO GIVE THE CUSTOMER MORE CONTROL OF CREATING THE PRODUCT AND RETHINKING THE ROLE OF DESIGNER TO SUPPORT THIS INTERACTION NOT DICTATE THE PRODUCT. ANY DESIGNS CREATED FOR THIS PROJECT SHOULD BE SEEN AS STARTING POINTS TO BE DEVELOPED AND ALTERED BY THE THOSE WHO ENGAGE WITH THEM. IN THIS WAY, THEY ARE MORE A MEANS FOR INTERACTION THAN PRODUCTS.

TO AID THE OPEN SOURCE GOAL OF THE PROJECT, ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT MUST BE WIDELY AVAILABLE AND CHEAP AND CONSTRUCTION SIMPLE. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON UP-CYCLING OR RE-WEARING A BASIC T-SHIRT. THE PROJECT IS ABOUT USING PRODUCTS NOT MAKING THEM AND THE UP-CYCLED GARMENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE BETWEEN FORMS TO USE THE FABRIC IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

SHOWN HERE IS A RANGE OF RAPID IDEA EXPLORATIONS OF HOW TO TRANSLATE THE IDEAS RELATED TO MAPPING THE MOVEMENTS OF PUTTING ON THE GARMENT INTO PHYSICAL DESIGNS. THEY INCLUDE ABSTRACT PATTERN GENERATION USING THE TRACKING POINTS AT THE TOP, COMBINATIONS OF THE GARMENT AND ITS BASE FRAME AT DIFFERENT MOMENTS IN THE PROCESS TO THE LEFT AND USING THE TRACKED MOVEMENT TO DESIGN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT GENERATES FABRIC MANIPULATIONS ABOVE.
